Competencies in HRM
International human resources management (IHRM) challenges have been the subject of
a great deal of research in recent years, according to Ayentimi et al. (2017). These studies do
have certain drawbacks, though. The over-reliance on static perspectives on HRM practices at
particular points in time is one of the main drawbacks of these studies. The fact that these studies
mostly concentrate on external factors and pay less attention to the internal characteristics of the
parent firm and subsidiary companies is another drawback of these studies (Ayentimi et al.
2017).
Any organization's performance depends on human resource management (HRM), which
makes sure that the best talent is found, nurtured, and kept. The idea of competencies—the
abilities, know-how, and conduct necessary to carry out a job well—is fundamental to human
resource management (HRM) (American Society for Training and Development, 2020).
Understanding skills is essential for students pursuing careers in human resources in order to
advance professionally and have an impact on organizations. This blog will give an overview of
HRM competences, highlight important information in tables, and go over their importance in
HR practice.
What Are Competencies?
The cornerstones of effective performance in any role are competencies. They fall into
two general categories in HRM: core competences, which apply to all HR tasks, and role-specific
competencies, which differ according to specific HR responsibilities like employee relations or
talent acquisition. In addition, competencies encompass behavioral traits, soft skills, and
technical skills, all of which help an individual accomplish company objectives (Society for
Human Resource Management, 2023).
