symptoms which can caused by one or more different disease. Nephrotic Syndrome can
be caused by many different diseases, some serious than others.

CLASSIFICATION OF NEPHROTIC SYNDROME-
1. CONGENITAL NEPHROTIC SYNDROME- It is rare but a serious and fatal
problem usually associated with other congenital anomalies of kidney. It is
inherited as autosomal recessive diseases severe renal insufficiency and urinary
infections along with this condition result in poor prognosis.
2. IDIOPATHIC OR PRIMARY NEPHROTIC SYNDROME- In childhood, the vast
majority (90%) belongs to this category. It is regarded by many authorities as a
sort of autoimmune phenomenon, especially since it responds well to
immunosuppressive therapy.
3. SECONDARY NEPHROTIC SYNDROME- Unlike adults children only
occasionally suffer from this type . It is responsible for only (10%) of overall
nephrotic children. The disease in this case is usually mediated by some form of
glomerulonephritis.
