AED3701 ASSIGNMENT 2 2026
DUE JUNE 2026
QUESTION
At the beginning of this module, you were invited to participate in the Student
Introductions discussion forum. You were asked to record a 2–3 minute video
introducing yourself, reflecting on your journey as a student, and sharing your insights
on the importance of assessment in education. You were also asked to watch at least
two of your peers' videos and post a meaningful typed response to each. This question
requires you to reflect critically on that experience and connect it to your developing
understanding of assessment in education.

The Student Introductions forum activity was a good example of a different type of
assessment. It was an informal and formative assessment because it helped the
lecturer see our progress and understanding without giving us marks (Dreyer & Mawela,
2020, p. 16). It also helped students learn and feel comfortable in the class. According
to the AED3701 Study Guide, formative assessment helps teachers and learners see
progress and improve learning (AED3701 Study Guide, p. 17).
This activity measured many things that a normal written test cannot measure. A written
test mostly checks if learners can remember facts or answer questions. The video
introduction checked my communication skills, confidence, and ability to explain myself
clearly. It also showed my facial expressions, tone of voice, and personality. The activity
also tested my ability to use technology because I had to record and upload a video.
This is an important skill in modern education (White Paper on TLTICTs, as cited in
AED3701 online unit, p. 36).
The activity also helped me think about myself and my learning journey. I had to reflect
on who I am and why assessment is important. This showed self-awareness and
personal understanding, which are difficult to see in a written test.
As a learner, I first felt nervous about recording myself. After watching other students’
videos, I felt more relaxed and connected to the class. It made me feel like part of a
learning community. This links with the idea that learning happens through social
interaction (AED3701 online unit, p. 73).
As a future teacher, this activity taught me that learners have different strengths. Some
learners may do better in speaking activities, while others may do better with technology
or creative tasks. Because of this, I would like to use different types of assessments in
my classroom, not only written tests. This can help learners show their abilities in
