Synthetic analog of somatostatin
MOA: binding to somatostatin
receptors, particularly subtype
2receptors, also known as SST2
receptors, and by doing so, it inhibits
the release of various hormones, such
as growth hormone, insulin, Glucagon,

drug or any of its components, and
should be avoided for that use; it is also
contraindicated in patients with
acromegaly who have not responded
adequately to surgical resection of a
pituitary tumor.
Cautions: can affect glucose metabolism and
cause hypo or hyperglycemia. We
need to carefully monitor diabetic
patients on the drug. Also, patients with
a history of gallstones will be cautioned
because they may experience an
exacerbation of symptoms. It can also
affect thyroid function tests.
Drug Interaction: They include the effects
of insulin and hypoglycemic agents on
the drug. They also may increase blood
levels of cyclosporine, and for any
patients
taking beta blockers, may increase the risk of
bradycardia.
SE: Most common: nausea, vomiting,
abdominal discomfort, flatulence, and
diarrhea. Hypo and hyperglycemia.
Injection site, pain, swelling, redness.
Bradycardia, arrhythmias. Risk for
