Def :- Artificial opening in trachea.
Purpose :- 1. Maintain Airway
2. Remove excessive secretion
3. Patient on ventilator
Indication :- Upper Airway Obstruction
Eg. Laryngeal edema
Laryngeal obstruction
Acid Swallow
Laryngeal Tumor
Contraindication :- Neonate less than 1 year
Classification :- 1. Upper Tracheostomy {2nd and 3rd ring}
2. Lower Tracheostomy {3rd and 4th ring}
Types :- Plastic Tracheostomy Tube [cuffed and uncuffed]
Metal Tracheostomy Tube
v M/C cuffed tube is used
Complication :- Laryngeal Nerve palsy
