I. LITERARY FICTION / FORM
~ A type of story that focuses more on deep characters, emotions, and life lessons instead
of action or entertainment.
~ Uses beautiful language and explores serious topics like love, family, society, or
personal struggles.
📍 PURPOSE OF LITERARY FICTION
● Literary fiction is intended to inspire thought, feeling, and understanding of the
world and ourselves, and not just to entertain.
📌 TYPES OF LITERARY FICTION
~ These types are based on the length and structure of the story, all of which are written
in prose, and they focus on serious themes, realistic characters, and artistic expression.
NOVEL
● A long fictional story written in prose that tells about characters and events in a detailed
and realistic way.
● Focuses on character development and inner thoughts
● Has multiple characters, settings, and chapters

These are considered to be the famous novels in literature:
● "The Great Gatsby" is a literary fiction novel set in the 1920s that tells the story of
Jay Gatsby, a wealthy man who throws grand parties in hopes of winning back his former
love, Daisy Buchanan. It is one of the greatest American novels for its powerful portrayal
of the Jazz Age and its critique of materialism and illusion.
● "To Kill a Mockingbird" is a literary fiction novel set in the 1930s American
South. It tells the story of a young girl named Scout Finch, who learns about racism,
justice, and growing up as her father, Atticus Finch, defends a Black man, Tom
Robinson, falsely accused of a crime.
