Word formation occurs when the word processes into a new word. It can happen in several ways.
Following are some key word formation processes:
Affixation, compounding, clipping, back-formation, derivation, conversion and neologization
etc.
Affixation
An affix is a morpheme that is attached to a word stem to form a new word or word form.
There are three types of affixes: prefixes, infixes, and suffixes
Prefixation: Adding a prefix to a word (e.g., un- + happy = unhappy)
Suffixation: Adding a suffix to a word (e.g., happy + -ness = happiness)
Prefixes:
