 Hospitality is known as travel and tourism.
 It provides accommodation food and drinks and other facilities required by
guests.
 Hospitality is a glamour industry
 Hospitality refers to the relationship between a guest and a host i.e.
reception, visitors and strangers etc.
 The hospitality industry is an umbrella term for a wide variety of service
industries, including, but not limited to, hotels restaurants, casinos,
catering enterprises, resorts, and clubs.
 The industry is diverse and global and is greatly impacted by fluctuations
within the economy and various happenings worldwide.



Origin & Growth
Hotel Industry
 It has started with travel and tourism.
 Purpose- business, medical, studies, pilgrimage, or any reason
 People used to carry their clothes but people could not carry food, shelter,
and needs here the hospitality steps in the industry.
 People used to travel on animals such as horses, camels, and elephants. In
ancient times, they traveled in groups known as caravans.
 People used to limit their travel to short distances only during the day, as
they were afraid of animals and bandits at night. They would search for
accommodations that offered a bed, food, and water.

, Inns
 Travelers in the past would often stay in accommodations run by families or
couples.
 These accommodations consisted of large halls where travelers could make
their beds on the floor, along with their animals.
 The hosts would provide food and drinks for a nominal fee.
 Inns were created to cater to travelers' needs. They were known by
different names worldwide, such as Dharmashala, Sarai, Pousadas, Coffee
houses, Taverns, Inns, Cabarets, Hostelries, Mansionis, Hospitia, and Relay
Houses.

 People move from one place to another.
 Group or individual
 Knowing culture, knowledge, and historic places and temples
 Major fast-growing industry
 The major source of foreign exchange
 Employment generation in tourism may be defined as the movement of
people from their normal place of residence to another place (with the
intention to return) for a minimum period of twenty-four hours to a
maximum of six months for the sole purpose of leisure and pleasure.
 Tourism can be categorized as: –
 International tourism
 Domestic tourism

Types of Tourism
 International Tourism:- Travelling to other countries or people visiting
to foreign country is known as international tourism
 Domestic Tourism: - Tourist moving within their own country is known
as a domestic country.
