Chapter 1 Review Questions
1. What are the advantages of using AutoCAD instead of drawing by hand?
Page 1-2: There are many advantages to using AutoCAD instead of drawing by hand:
• Drawings are done full size and scaled only for printing.
• Working with a design team is easier with AutoCAD.
• You draw fixtures, furniture, appliances, etc. only one time and re-use
them for other drawings.
• You can use items drawn by other designers; you no longer need to trace.
• You can have a library of items for re-use.
• You can use layers to visualize select items at a time.
• You can create/erase construction lines, etc. without the mess.
2. Why do you always draw full scale in AutoCAD?
Page 1-2: Since it is standard practice to do drawings full scale on AutoCAD, the
architectural drawing, and any available drawings such as furniture, appliances, etc. are
readily available for your use. Sharing your designs with other designers and vice versa
is made easy by drawing to full scale.
3. Which direction are angles measured in AutoCAD?
Page 1-4: Positive angles are measured by starting from the positive X-axis and rotating
in a counterclockwise direction. Note that you can use negative angles. For example,
-90° is the same as 270°.

Angles are measured counterclockwise
4. How do you access the Help feature?
Page 1-16: Like most other AutoCAD functions, there are several ways to access the
Help screen. You can use the Help icon or pull-down, or simply press the F1 key (Mac:
use Command key with forward slash / )( /)
