Introduction
In Western Australia a criminal offence of identity theft through scam watch has
occurred. It has being reported that the alleged suspect of this case, Damon, a
software developer, has stolen identities to make fraudulent online purchases. The
background search of Damon showed that he has no previous convictions and he
denies the allegation of the crime. With appropriate warrants, suspect’s laptop was
seized and a Forensic Image has being created for further analysis by the team.
Until this point there is insufficient evidence to draw conclusions on the suspect or
the crime but however an analysis of the network traffic on Damon’s workplace has
shown that there is a high probability for criminal activities.

Background
Following the prior investigations it is suspected that the offence has taken place in
Damon’s workspace. With proper warrants, WA police officers carried out an
investigation and an analysis on Damon’s workspace network traffic logs. From the
outcome of the analysis, officers concluded that there is a high probability for a
criminal involvement. Therefore with that information investigators declared Damon
as a potential suspect for the crime and obtained warrants to seize his laptop for
further investigations. So far after initial study of all the evidence gathered it is
assumed that there is no other people involved in the crime and that Damon might
have committed the crime alone.
A formal interview was conducted with Damon by the officers and in that he denied
allegation of crime. Suspect is yet to be questioned on several areas such as the
network logs and different activities he has performed on his device after further
investigations and analysis are made on the case.
Investigation team has created a Forensic Image of the seized laptop using Forensic
practices and tools. A hash digest is to be created from the Forensic Image using
md5 for validation purpose.
There is no third party involvement in this case and no other witness about the
alleged crime. Therefore we may have to face a delay in the investigation to
