EIGEN VALUES AND EIGEN VECTORS OF REAL MATRIX
Definition
Let A be a square matrix of order n. A number λ is called an eigen value of A if there exists
a non – zero column matrix X such that AX = λX. Then X is called an eigen vector
corresponding to an eigen value λ.
CHARACTERISTIC EQUATION OF A MATRIX
If λ is a characteristic root of a square matrix A, then det (A – λI) = 0 is called the
characteristic equation of the matrix A.
