The hypothalamus is a very small part of
the diencephalon, located below the
thalamus, the
along the walls of the 3rd ventricle.
It is a very important integrating center,
plays a major role in homeostasis.
It controls the ANS, the ES and certain
behaviors.
Neuro-Vegetative Function .
Neuro-Endocrine Function .
Function of regulating behavior.
,THE HYPOTHALAMUS: MADE UP OF
NEUROSECRETORY CELLS ASSOCIATED TO FORM NUCLEI
GROUPED INTO TWO SYSTEMS:
1) MAGNOCELLULAR SYSTEM 2)
PARVOCELLULAR SYSTEM
, PITUITARY GLAND: 2 LOBES:
ANTERIOR : ADENOHYPOPHYSIS OR
ANTERIOR PITUITARY GLAND POSTERIOR : NEUROHYPOPHYSIS OR
POST PITUITARY GLAND
Pituitary stalk and portal system:
The blood circulates in a primary cap network, then
secondary via a vessel which unites them, called a portal
vessel:
It is the hypothalamic -pituitary portal system which ensures
the vascularization of the anterior pituitary gland .
Neurovascular structure
which connects the hypothalamus
to the anterior and posterior pituitary glands
