Identifying / Family Information
26 minutes 26 seconds
When was she diagnosed with Lewy body dementia?
She was diagnosed ve years ago.
26 minutes 32 seconds
Describe her current living arrangement.
She currently lives at Fern's Memory Care. My father passed away
four years ago, a year after my mom was diagnosed. We didn't feel
like she should live on her own without the help that my father was
providing her, so we decided an assisted living facility would be the
safest place for her. More recently we transitioned her into Fern's
Memory Care.
5 minutes 56 seconds
Is there a family history of dementia?
No.
Areas of Concern
27 minutes 33 seconds
, What symptoms does your mother exhibit?
When we were searching for a diagnosis, she was becoming more
and more disoriented and was unable to take care of herself. She
often described unusual dreams or visions and sleeping issues.
She claimed there were people in the house, or she would hear
strange noises. Recently, she seems completely lost, and I think the
reason we are here today is because she has been coughing a lot.
Feeding / Swallowing
28 minutes 9 seconds
Describe your mother's eating and drinking.
I am not usually around when she is eating, but I know the aide
has to feed her at every meal. The aide has to constantly watch her
for choking. Large bites of food or big sips of water can cause her
to choke. She eats very slowly.
28 minutes 17 seconds
Has your mother ever had a test where they did an X-ray recording
while she is swallowing?
No.
Language / Literacy
28 minutes 22 seconds
How would you describe your mother's communication?
I hate to say it, but she seems sad, and she has no way of
communicating with me. She sometimes makes a grunting sound. I
feel helpless at times.
