COURSE TITLE: SOLID STATE PHY
ASSIGNMENT TOPIC:
CRYSTAL STRUCTURE IN 2D AND 3D
,Crystal Structure in 2D and 3D
In 2D, the repeating pattern of atoms forms a 2D lattice,
which can be visualized as a grid on a flat plane. The
unit cell is the smallest repeating unit that, when
translated in both directions, can recreate the entire
lattice
, Types of 2D Lattices
There are five possible types of 2D lattices:
Rectangular Lattice:
•Opposite sides are equal, and all angles are 90°.
•Example: Certain crystal planes of metals.
Hexagonal Lattice:
•All sides are equal, with angles of 120°.
•Example: Graphene and other 2D materials like boron nitrid
, Oblique Lattice:
•Sides and angles can have arbitrary values.
•Least symmetric type.
Centered Rectangular (or Rhombic) Lattice:
•A rectangular lattice with additional atoms at the
center of the unit cell
