, In the counseling profession, there are numerous specialties that all develop from
their own professional perspective. When working with counselors of other disciplines, it is
important to note that these various perspectives come with their own research-based
techniques, strategies, and practices that contribute the overall wellness of the client or
student. Each discipline has
their own cultural and historical background, worldviews, values, and practice priorities
and it is vital that counselors focus on what is best for the client or student instead of
allowing tensions to arise over differing opinions in helping the client or student
(McAllister, et al., 2011). For example, school counseling professionals look at the issues
their clients face from a social emotional lens, but a school psychologist may view from a
purely academic or socioeconomic viewpoint. This paper evaluates the impact of
establishing clear roles for each professional, developing understandings and guidelines
about best practices for helping the student, forming opening communication and best
practices for avoiding ethical conflicts, combating systematic barriers, and creating a
wellness strategy that highlights the skills of each counseling discipline involved with the
