Golden Retriever
Breed Characteristics (Physical):
Golden Retrievers are a medium to large sized dog that has a strong athletic
build. Theu have a dense, water-repellent double coat that is usuallt golden
or cream colour. They have a friendly expression, feathered tail and floppy
ears which gives them a warm approachable appearance.

Golden Retrievers are known for their friendly, gentle and intelligent nature.
They are highly trainable dogs and are very eager to please, this makes
them excellent family pets and also service dogs. They are also playful and
sociable and get along well with children and other animals.
Breed History:
The Golden Retriever was developed in Scotland during the 1800s, it was
created by crossing a Yellow Retriever with a tweed water spaniel, followed
by other breeds such as Bloodhounds and Irish Setters. The aim was to
produce a hunting dog that could retrieve from both land and water.
Development Over Time:
Over the years Golden Retriever became popular not just for hunting but also
as companion dogs. They were officially recognised by The Kennel Club in
the UK in 1913. Today, they are one of the most popular dog breeds
worldwide because of their loving temperament and adaptability.
Skull Type:
Golden retrievers have a mesocephalic skull, this means that their head is
moderately shaped and proportionate. This skull type gives them a balanced
appearance and contributes to them having strong jaws and a gentle mouth
grip, this makes it useful for them to retrieve objects without damaging
them.
Health Issues:
Golden retrievers are normally healthy but are prone to more genetic health
problems. This can include hip and elbow dysplasia, certain heart diseases
and various cancers. They can also suffer from skin allergies and eye
conditions such as cataracts which is when the vision becomes cloudy or
