Introduction to Fundamentals of Nursing
This is one of the foundation courses in nursing education. It equips students with the
knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to provide safe and holistic care to patients. The course
also introduces the nursing process, professional ethics, and basic clinical skills.

History and Role of Nursing
● Nursing has evolved from traditional caregiving roles to a professional healthcare
discipline.
● Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing.
● Today, nurses play multiple roles: caregiver, advocate, educator, researcher, and leader.

The Nursing Process
This is a systematic, patient-centered approach used worldwide in nursing practice. It has five
steps:
1. Assessment – Collecting data about the patient (vital signs, medical history,
observations).
2. Diagnosis – Identifying health problems based on assessment findings.
