the needs and wants of people. It involves activities like production, distribution, and sales
with the main goal of earning profit.
2. Characteristics of Business
• Deals with goods and services
• Involves profit motive
• Requires investment of capital
• Involves risk and uncertainty
• Continuous process of production and distribution
• Provides employment and improves standard of living
3. Objectives of Business
• Economic Objectives: Profit earning, market share, innovation
• Social Objectives: Providing quality products, fair prices, social welfare
• Human Objectives: Employee satisfaction, training, and development
• National Objectives: Contributing to economic growth, tax revenue, exports
4. Types of Business Activities
a) Industry - Production of goods (e.g., manufacturing, mining)
b) Commerce - Distribution of goods (e.g., trade, transport, banking, insurance)
c) Services - Activities that support trade and industry (e.g., IT, healthcare, education)
5. Forms of Business Ownership
• Sole Proprietorship - Single owner, easy to start, full control but unlimited liability
• Partnership - Two or more people share ownership, profits, and risks
• Joint Stock Company - Large organization owned by shareholders
• Cooperative Societies - Group of people with common interest working together
• Public Sector - Owned and controlled by the government
