• Tenses:
Definition: Tenses are the essential tools that help us understand English, enabling
us to write and speak it correctly.
Kinds of Tenses: There are three kinds of tenses:
1. Present tense
2. Past tense
3. Future tense
We will discuss each kind in detail:
Present Tense:
Types: There are four types of present tense:
1. Present Indefinite Tense (Simple Present tense):
The action that happens in the present time, especially as a habit, fact, or general
truth.
Structure:
Subject + 1st form of verb + s/es + object
Usage rules
He / She / it = does (singular subject) I
/ we / they / you = do (plural subject)
Note:
In negative sentences, use ‘do’ or ‘does’ instead of adding ‘s’ or ‘es’ to the verb.
For example:
i. Ali goes to school.( Assertive or simple sentence )
ii. Ali does not go to school. (Negative sentence)
2. Present Continuous Tense:
The action that is currently in progress.
Structure:
Subject + is / am / are + ing form of verb + object
For example :
i. I am eating food.
ii. They are playing football.
