1. Based on the National Small Business Act, classify the size of enterprise that
GI represents by referring to its number of employees. (1)
According to the National Small Business Act of South Africa, businesses in the finance
and business services sector are classified based on criteria such as the number of full-
time employees. With a staff complement of seven full-time employees, GI falls within
the category of a “very small enterprise”, as this classification applies to firms
employing between 6 and 20 employees in this sector.
2. Identify and discuss the key challenges that Sakhe experienced both during the
initial stages of establishing his business and in the ongoing operation of his
enterprise. (7)
Sakhe encountered distinct challenges during both the founding phase of GI and its
ongoing operations:
• Initial stages:
▪ Limited professional experience: Having qualified as an attorney only two
years prior, Sakhe felt underprepared to establish his own practice,
believing that at least five years of experience would have been
necessary. This created self-doubt about competing with seasoned
attorneys.
