1. Data and Information
Definition of Information:
- Information is the assignment of meaning to data.
Hierarchy of Understanding:
- Knowledge stems from an understanding of information.
- Wisdom involves sound judgment and appropriate execution.
Nature of Data:
- Data, in its raw form, lacks meaning.
- It becomes information when interpreted and assigned to context.
Data vs. Information:
- Data consists of raw facts and figures.
- Information contextualizes and organizes data, giving it meaning.
Decision-Making:
- Data alone is insufficient for decision-making.
- Decisions can be made based on information, which results from processing
and organizing data.
