Using Educational Psychology in Teaching (12th Edition)
Eggen, Kauchak and McCrudden
Using Educational Psychology in Teaching (12th ed.) includes 50 Application Exercises,
39 of which are video based, and 11 of which are written-case based.
Purpose:
The exercises are designed to advance your students professional development by
taking them into PreK-12 classrooms and providing them with authentic experiences
that can broaden and deepen their professional knowledge.
Structure:
Each exercise is structured with the following components:
1. Title of the exercise
2. The learning objective addressed by the exercise
3. Reference to a video episode, typically 2-5 minutes long, the focus of most of
these exercises (Students will need access to the Pearson e-Textbook in order to
access these videos)
4. A one or two paragraph overview that establishes the context for the exercise
5. Three or four questions that ask students to describe how the teacher in the
video or written case study applies content from a specified section of a
chapter—the chapter section is identified in the question—or asks the students to
assess a teacher’s application of content from a specified section of a chapter,
such as How Experiences Advance Development (Ch. 2), Knowledge
Construction in 4th Grade (Ch. 8), or Applying Theories of Motivation in 5th
Grade (Ch. 10).
6. A model response for each question (You have the option of inserting these
responses into the feedback mechanism in your LMS.)
Assigning the Exercises:
The exercises can be assigned in three or more ways, such as:
1. Assigning them for homework after a chapter has been covered in class
2. Using them as focal points for small-group discussions
3. Using them as focal points for whole-class discussions
Each exercise should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
The Exercises:
The following is a list of the exercises, by title.
