CLASS 11TH BIOLOGY
CHAPTER:-1 LIVING WORLD
NOTES
● Basic principle of life
1. The living beings once produced/
born has to survive. For survive,it need energy,it has to perform metabolism.
2. From birth onwards. Organisms show tendancy of growth and development. This growth
and development are well-orchetrated process.
3. Growth and development are not prosses in which have unlimited time span
4. As the body losses the capacity to perform metabolism organism dies i.g does not
remain immortal.
● Herbarium
1. The art of herbarium was invented by an Italian taxonomist Luca Ghini (1490-1556)
2. Herbaria are effective tool in taxonomic studies
3. A herbarium is essentially a dired plant specimen That it pressed
4. Writting information like scientific name, common name, class, division etc
● Botanical garden
1. Botanical gardens are the places where living plantsof different varieties collected from
different parts of the world
2. These plants are grown in a scientific and systematic way in an ‘in Vivo manner’
3. Plant are labelled
4. The label board show's scientific as well as common name of the plant
● Conservation of biodiversity
1. Biodiversity is the degree of variation of life forms in an ecosystem. Biodiversity is
essential to maintain ecological stability
2. Population explosion and over explotation of resources have resulted in a loss of
biodiversity at an alarming rate
3. Conservation involves attempting to show down, stop or even reverse the loss in the
natural habitat of organisms
4. This is known as‘in situ conservation
