CLAUSE
SENTENCE :- A combination of words that makes complete sense is called a
sentence.
Clause शब्दों के उस समह
ू को कहते हैं जो किसी वाक्य का अंश हो और जिसमें एक subject
और एक finite verb हो।
Sentence के दो भाग होते हैं
(1)Subject (2) Predicate
Raj is a good man.
He went home.
Hari’s father is an engineer.
Clause किसी Sentence का वह भाग होता है जिसमें एक Subject और एक Finite Verb
होता है ।
Note:- यह Clause स्वयं एक Sentence नहीं होता है Sentence का Part होता है ।
I called Riya but she gave no answer. If I make a promise I keep it.
You may sit wherever you like. I know the reason why he worked hard.
You will pass if you work hard. He passed because he worked hard.
I know where he lives.
They went where living was cheaper.
I know Ramu who is the famous doctor.


Kinds of Clauses
(1) Principal Clause/Main Clause
(2) Subordinate Clause/Dependent Clause
(3) Co-ordinate Clause
(1)Principal Clause :- Main Clause जो Clause स्वतः पर्ण
ू अर्थ रखता है और किसी अन्य Clause
पर आश्रित नहीं रहता है ।

(2) Subordinate Clause:- जो Clause अपने पर्ण
ू अर्थ के लिए Principal Clause पर निर्भर रहता
है . ये Subordinate Conjunction
As, because, since, before, till, after, while, when, if, though, although, unless, lest, in
order that, so much, so that, as soon as, provided, provided that, as if, that, whether,
which, where, why, how, as much as, that, when, what, who, whom , whose, until, as
long as, in case, etc.

, (3) Co-ordinate Clause :- (समान पदीय उपवाक्य)
यह एक Sentence का भाग होते हुए भी अपने अर्थ के लिए किसी Clause पर आश्रित नहीं होती है ।
Co-ordinate Conjunction से जड़
ु े हुए Clause को Co-ordinate Clause कहा जाता है ।
And, but, as well as, yet, or, still, both---and, so, not only—but also, neither-nor,
either-or, never the less, only.
I met the man who came yesterday.
We know that he is not sincere in his duty.

God made the country and men made the town.
Ram passed but his brother failed.
यदि तम
ु परिश्रम करोगे तो सफल होगे।
If you work hard, you will be successful.
मैं वैसा ही करुं गा जैसा तम
ु कहते हो।

(1) Noun Clause
जो Subordinate clause sentence मे noun का कार्य करती है Noun clause कह्लाती है
Noun clause को पह्चानने के लिये main verb से what का प्रश्न करने पर जो उत्तर आता है वह
noun clause है . Subordinate Noun clause को principal clause से जोड़ने वाले शब्द हैं that,
who, whom, whose, which, what, why, if, whether, where, how, when.
What, where, when, that how, why आदि से शरु
ु होने वाले Clause जब किसी Sentence के
आरं भ में रहते हैं और जब उनके पहले कोई Noun नहीं आता है तब वे Noun Clause होते हैं।
