“Fundamentals of Alkanes, Alkenes, and Conjugated Dienes”
This chapter covers the fundamentals of alkanes, alkenes, and conjugated dienes, highlighting their structure, properties, and uses. Topics include alkanes and paraffins, halogenation, and free radical reactions. Hybridization (sp, sp², sp³) and elimination mechanisms (E1, E2) are discussed with emphasis on Saytzeff’s rule. Addition reactions are explained through Markovnikov’s and anti-Markovnikov’s rules, ozonolysis, and the Diels–Alder reaction, all supported by detailed mechanisms.
