1. DESIGN PROCEDURE FOR V – BELT DRIVE
Step 1: Selection of belt drive:
From DB: 7.58 , select the V – Belt
Step 2 : Calculate pulley diameter,
i = (n1/n2) = (D/d)
d small pulley dia
D large pulley dia
N1 small pulley RPM
N2 Large pulley RPM
Step 3 : Calculate length of Belt
From DB: 7.53 , standardize
Step 4 : Calculate power of the belt
From DB: 7.62
[Use appropriate belt formula]

From DB: 7.70
Also calculate necessary factors from the same
page itself , for the calculation.
Step 6 : Calculate Correct Centre Distance
From DB: 7.61
Step 7 : Dimensions of STD V – grooved pulley
From DB: 7.70 ,
Draw the diagram and write necessary
dimensions values from the tabular column

Step 1 : Calculate design power
Design power = Given power x FL XFA
Where, FL = load C.F ( DB: 7.53)
FA = AOC Factor ( DB: 7.54)
Step 2 : Select Belt Type
From, DB: 7.52
Step 3 : Calculate Belt Rating
From, DB: 7.54
Calculate for given AOC & Velocity
Step 4 : Calculate Belt Width
Belt Width = [D.P / Belt Rating ] in MM
Step 5 : Calculate Belt Length
DB : 7.33 L = 2C + /2 ( D+d ) + ( D – d )2/4c
Step 6 : Calculate Pulley Width
Add allowance width with belt width from
