Analyse the information in the class summary. What are your learners’ strengths and weaknesses?
(max. 100 words)
1
,The class summary indicates that the student’s strengths are in reading and writing, particularly reading where most have a band score
of 7. Areas
of weakness include listening and speaking skills which both average on a band grade of 5.75.
Which two skills have you chosen to teach in this lesson? Why? (minimum 150 words)
It can be seen in the class summary that listening and speaking skills require the most improvement, with a class average of 5.7 for both
skills which is significantly lower than their reading and writing scores. The final grade for the IELTS exam is based on a combination
is based on all four of the skills, therefore, it is important and necessary to strengthen weaker areas as doing so will increase the overall
band score. Listening and speaking skills are also essential part of our everyday lives; they are imperative for communication and
having conversations. To have productive discussions on any topic students need to be able to express themselves and their ideas
clearly, concisely, and confidently. By integrating these two skills in one lesson it will allow for plenty of conversation and exchanging
of ideas, which will ultimately help promote an inclusive, collaborative learning environment especially taking into consideration that
all the students come from different backgrounds.
2
, Which lesson topic have you chosen? Why? (minimum 100 words)
The topic I have chosen to use for this lesson is ‘health and fitness’. This topic is interesting and widely relevant to all students
regardless of their age or cultural background. At some point in their lives, everyone will have come across this subject or will have had
their own experiences relating to health. In recent times and especially more so now due to the pandemic, the topic has become
increasingly more popular therefore I believe it is important to equip students with the vocabulary and knowledge need to be able to
discuss and share their thoughts, ideas and opinions.
Furthermore, this knowledge is functional and will better their understanding on health and related behavior’s and may even encourage
the students to take measures to lead a healthier lifestyle.
