Mastoiditis is an infection
and inflammation of the
spaces within the mastoid
bone (mastoid antrum air
cells). It is almost always
associated with otitis
media (an infection of the
middle ear). It is
characterized by redness,
tenderness, swelling and
fluctuation over the
mastoid process with
displacement of the pinna.
