Week 1 Assignment Journal Entry Ivancic Pediatric Clinic Dr. Alexa Nikki Ivancic Pediatric Practicum Experience Strengths and Weakness My clinical rotation is with Dr. Ivancic at the Ivancic Pediatric Clinic. I have some experience with pediatric patients due to working in emergency medicine as a registered nurse. However, the provider aspect of pediatric care is different from what nurses provide. Nursing Theory The nursing theory that I chose is Roy’s Adaptation Model. Roy describes adaptation occurring when people respond positively to environmental changes. A person interacts with the environment and surroundings, using inate and acquired mechanisms to adapt (Petiripin, 2016). Children often adapt to their surroundings. A positive environment can be presented for the child, and the child will respond positively. The child may respond negatively to negative actions (Pereiria del Melo, et al, 2011). Goals The goals of this clinical rotation are to educate and become competent as a provider to pediatric patients. Pediatric population is defined as persons aged from 0 to 21. Nurse Practitioners can see these patients and help them with care (National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, 2008). The goal is to complete the 144 hours of my practicum experience within this summer semester. At the end of that time, I hope to feel more comfortable with the pediatric population of patients.
