Origin of fashion
One of the most important factors which differentiate human from animals is their use
of clothing.
It is used not only to provide a comfort climate for the weaver’s body, but also to
conceal the body and reveal its weaver status and their personality to other it also shows
their social class.
Person’s identity reflects the weaver’s goals and moral principles. Communicates
self- assurance or lack of it.
One of the most mysterious aspect of clothing is FASHION. Fashion in dress is
the interpretation of an accepted style at any given time.
Whenever a style is accepted blindly and worm by sufficient number of people.it is
in fashion
fashion functions only when a group of people accepts the same style. It is the result of
a common response.
New fashion offers variations of color, fabric and line to satisfy the public’s desire
for novelty and the need of business to create a demand for new merchandise, for
e.g.it determines the length and style of men’s and lady’s hair, the height of the heels
etc.
The style of clothing is just an aspect of fashion, but a most important one. Fashion
is change.
Clothing started when people began to wear a waist bracelet or string, next cloth
was draped from the waist in front in the form of a small apron.
For centuries, clothing was made by hand. Women sewed for their families and the
wealthy class hired others to sew for them.
The beginning of cloth industry occurred in France among the wealthy rating class.
Custom made luxurious clothing came to symbolize France, eventually leading to
the origin of Haute Couture Fashion Business.
Soon other couture houses were established and royalty supported and encouraged them.
Magazine and newspaper coverage given to these famous women in their
various activities helped to spread the favors styles.
Fashion magazines were created with specific purpose of presenting fashion news to an
even wider public.

regarded as a national industry in France as such it is fostered, protected and financed
by government.
During world war II, France was occupied by Germany. Many of the great houses
closed rather than serve hilter.
Designers became national hero’s and went underground. Thus from 1940 to 1945,
the French fashion industry ceased to function.
During this time American designers moved to prominence in the fashion world.
Probably the greats American contribution have been in sportswear, particularly
swim wear.
The American mass production has made fashion a commodity (product) available to
all, and its innovation of planned obsolescence helps to keep fashion vital, alive and on
the move.
Importance of Fashion
Fashion is the latest trends in clothing’s, accessories, footwear and for others it may be latest
food, lifestyle, etc. Fashion becomes very important if you are a working woman or man.
Following the latest flowers fashion trend highlights your personality and gives classy looks.
Therefore, fashion is very important in our life. Hence, many fashion designers work hard to
create new designs, which can attract people and accept them. People who want to be up to date
with the latest fashion follow various fashion magazines and media. Yes, fashion is very
important in our life as it gives a good impression if we are dressed according to the latest style.
Our first clothes existed to protect our body from harm and cold. It slowly turned into an
industry
- from jewellery to shoes and clothes. We do not wear the same clothes through the centuries so
fashion trends have always been a thing. Fashion is important because it can open our mind and
change beauty standards of our society. Fashion evolves with our world and reacts to our
current history and to our constant globalization.
Development of Fashion
Before the mid-19th century the division between haute couture and ready-to-wear did not really
exist. All but the most basic major pieces of female clothing was made-to-
measure by dressmakers and seamstresses dealing directly with the client, and fitting to her
shape. Hats, gloves and similar accessories were mostly made ready to wear and sold in shops
as now. Tailors worked with men in the same way. The design of these clothes became
