hook, sending the message the patient is not in charge.
When is the expert approach appropriate? - ANSWER-When we are facing an
immediate health crisis or considering surgery. It is not ideal when we want to loose
weight, reduce stress, or develop a positive and confident mindset. The patient is not
asked to find their own answers and they are not in control
Why is the strength based perspective and client in control approach best? When is
this approach appropriate? - ANSWER-It builds confidence and requires new
patterns of thinking, doing and relating.
It builds off of what's working in our lives and away from an emphasis on diagnosing
and fixing what's not working. It is appropriate in situations that are emergent and
related to lifestyle choices.
