, INTRODUCTION
• Conduct community-based health care is one of the competencies in
TVET level 6.
• This unit specifies the competencies required to conduct community-
based health care.It involves performing community based-health
care, managing HIV and TB prevalence and providing mental health
and psychosocial support.
• It also includes childcare ICCM and management of malaria.
• The importance of community-based health care to TVET level 6
curriculum is due to the increased need of health matters awareness
thus it will promote healthy living and awareness of chronic illnesses,
which will bring the greatest health benefits to the community.
, INTRODUCTION
• The critical aspects of competency to be covered includes;
• Assessing emergency preparedness and preparing a report,
• Organizing referals for non manageable conditions in the community-
based health care systems
• Providing palliative care needs as required
• Carrying out TB and HIV assessment and diagnosis
• Identifying, counselling and managing coinfected patients with active
TB
• Record of HIV patients and initiating ARV
• Monitoring and regulating HIV and TB incidences in the community.

• Conducting assessment of patients with mental disorders and
providing mental health
• Psychosocial support, managing childcare integrated community case
management
• Developing malaria and zoonotic disease prevention and control
procedures, initiating
• Implementing disease control programs, demonstrating
understanding of community-based -active drugs
• Carrying psych-active drugs needs assessment and identifying psycho
active drugs
• Developing and carrying out psycho_x0002_active drugs demand
reduction strategies and monitoring and evaluating use of
psycho_x0002_active drugs and preparing a report.
