Epinephrine 0.01mg/kg - answer Indications: Life-threatening allergic reactions
Action: Works by bronchodilating or opening up your throat so you can get air into your
lungs.
Side effects: Fast or irregular HR, skin redness/warmth
Contraindications: closed-angle glaucoma, hypersensitivity to sympathomimetic drugs
Implications: Shake suspension for injection, monitor HR
Benadryl (diphenylamine) 1mg/kg - answer Indications: Relief of mild symptoms of
allergy such as itchy/red/irritated eyes
Action: blocking the action of histamine in the body.
Side effects: painful urination, drowsiness. dry mouth nose and throat.
Contraindications: high BP, closed angle glaucoma, overactive thyroid gland.
Implications: Monitor patient response, administer w/food if GI upset occurs.
Orapred (Prednisolone) - answer Indications: Treats arthritis blood problems, immune
system disorders, breathing problems, and severe allergies
Action: Decrease inflammation via suppression of the migration of polymorph nuclear
leukocytes.
Side effects: N/V, Increased BP, Acne
Contraindications: Untreated tuberculosis, Intestinal infection
Implications: Monitor serum blood glucose, watch BP and I and O
