You are working as a school counselor in a primary school, there is much pressure to
perform during exams and as a counselor you feel it is affecting the psychological state of
the students. Write one-page reflection on issues you would raise with the school
administration, teachers and parents.

Examinations come with a lot of pressure for students most of the time. When the pressure is too
much, it can end up affecting them psychologically as well which might just make them not
perform at all in their exams. As the school administration it is important to have systems in
place that will help the students manage the symptoms of exams stress before, during and after
exams. This will prevent a lot of the children from getting anxious towards exams and help them
get through the exam period, (Tabatabai, 2020). The students will also have some hope at the end
of the tunnel in that they have a system in place that can help them with the pressure of exams.
Such programs can include having sporting activities after the exam period that will help them
get the pressure off.

As teachers, it is important to make sure that students are well aware of study techniques that
they can enforce to increase a sense of agency as well as competence in students in dealing with
exams. Teachers should teach their students the importance of preparing well before an exam.
This can be implemented through helping them make study schedules, (Alkandri, 2020). As
teachers it is also important to make sure that students know that they can get help in identifying,
sharing and challenging negativity about their exams. Negative thoughts as well as energy might
become overwhelming when students are performing their exams. They should have people they
can share these challenges with who will help them overcome.

As parents, there is much to do to help children overcome the anxiety that comes with exams. It
is important to make sure that the children are well taken care of at home, they are getting the
proper diet, rest as well as sleep, (Knightsmith, 2019). This will help them stay energized during
the exam season. It is also important to encourage the kids and make them understand that exams
are in existence to prepare them for their future. This way the kids will work hard but take it easy
on themselves and even have study breaks as opposed to reading fulltime. Also it is important to
reward children after their exams to motivate them to always perform better and handle the
pressure that comes with exams in a positive manner.
