 Heart failure is a complex syndrome resulting from
cardiac disorders that impair the ventricles’ ability to
fill with and effectively pump blood
 In heart failure, the heart is unable to pump enough
blood to meet the metabolic demands of the body. It
is the end result of many conditions
 Frequently, it is a long-term effect of coronary heart
disease and myocardial infarction (MI) when left
ventricular damage is extensive enough to impair
cardiac output
 Other diseases of the heart also may cause heart
failure, including inflammatory disorders

 Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a
condition in which the heart is unable to
pump sufficient blood to meet the needs of
body
 Heart failure does not mean that the heart
has stopped or is about to stop working. It
means that the heart is not able to pump
blood the way that it should. The heart
can’t fill with enough blood or pump with
enough force, or both
