, Why Communication Matters – A True Story
Rahul was a brilliant software developer. He worked late nights, delivered every task on time, and avoided
distractions. He believed, 'My work will speak for itself.'
Months passed. One day, a big promotion was announced. It went to Priya, who had joined just six months
earlier.
Shocked, Rahul asked his manager, 'Why not me?'
She replied gently, 'Rahul, you’re technically sound, but Priya communicates. She shares ideas, listens,
collaborates, and solves problems with people. That’s leadership.'
Being skilled is not enough. If you can’t
communicate, your value may go unseen.
Communication is the bridge between potential and progress."

• Communication is a two-way process of reaching mutual
understanding, in which participants not only exchange
information, news, ideas and feelings but also create and
share meaning.
Imagine a teacher says, “You need to try harder.”
One student might hear: “You believe in me.”
Another might hear: “You think I’m not good enough.”
Only when the student responds or asks, and the teacher clarifies,
does mutual understanding happen. That’s real communication.

• Louis A. Allen defines communication as , “Communication is the
sum of all the things one person does when he wants to create
understanding in the mind of another. It is a bridge of meaning. It
involves a systematic and continuous process of telling, listening and
understanding.”
