Original Writing NEA - Why Gratitude is Good in Your Life (pg 1-3)
Style Model – (pg 4-5)
Sincere gratitude can not only make you happier, but it can also improve your health.
Gratitude is defined as the “quality of being thankful and the ability to show
appreciation for things in your life”. This quality ignites a spark within the human
body, undoubtedly having a positive effect on our well-being. The magic of this
special gift is said to encourage exercise performance, increase goal achievement,
improve attractiveness and increase life-span.
It has been argued that once people show gratitude towards their health, they may
be encouraged to exercise more in order to maintain it. This choice to increase
physical activity is not by chance. A study was carried out by scientists in Stanford
University, where they enrolled 96 male American Football players. For 11 weeks
their physical athletic performance rates were monitored. However, 36 of these
volunteers were instructed to keep a ’Gratitude Journal’, where they were told to
write down all the reasons why they were grateful for their health. After 11 weeks,
they found that that those who had kept a gratitude journal happened to exercise on
average 40 minutes more per week than those who hadn’t kept a gratitude journal. It
is amazing that just by being more grateful, you can be motivated to increase your
physical performance.
