Multidisciplinary Education Team Case Study
According to Michigan Alliance for Families the Mulidisipilary team is defined as at
least two persons responsible for the evaluation process of a student and can include a special
education teacher and another specialist (MET, n.d). Very similar to a Child Study Team
however after the evaluation process is over the MET holds a meeting to discuss and analyze
data to determine eligibility for services. They will then make recommendations and pass on
their findings and contributions to the student’s IEP team. The IEP Team is then made up of
more members such as parents or child if old enough, general education teacher, special
education teacher, administration, school social worker, school psychologist, and possibly other
specific specialists depending on the services the child is receiving or is eligible for (The
Importance of a Multidisciplinary IEP Team, 2020)
In the case of Jonathon, a 7 year old boy in second grade who seems to be physically
behind the rest of his peers and seems to dislike fine motor activities. He tends to have loud
outburst and disruptive behavior during non preferred activities. The areas of concern are
obviously the disruptive behaviours in class as well as his ability to read and comprehend text.
Jonathan not only displays these behaviors at school but also at home as well where the
situations are more aggressive and parents are open to seeking help from the school on these
issues. For this reason Jonothon is unable to go to the store, spend time outside, or be able to take
advantage of any before and after school programs or activities.
