Crisis Prevention vs. Crisis Intervention
The Similarities Between Crisis Prevention and Crisis Intervention
Crisis prevention and intervention are not the same but may be similar. Crisis prevention
is when an individual takes initiative to prevent a crisis from happening before it does (Summers,
2016). An intervention during a crisis is usually handled by a professional such as a case
manager that intervene in the midst of a crisis to de-escalate the situation. Both of these actions
are similar in the goal that they hold, but the main difference is in the timing and approach to
both.
The Differences Between Crisis Prevention and Crisis Intervention
The timing of the action is the difference between crisis prevention and intervention.
Prevention is utilized prior to the explosion of the crisis, while intervention is needed in the
midst of the crisis. If at all possible, the preferable method of the two is crisis prevention because
it can eliminate the trauma that may be generated from a crisis situation. If the crisis is de-
