Instructional Plan Title: Introduction to simple addition and subtraction
Lesson Summary and As a class, the students will begin by working on beginning numeracy. In order
Focus: for the students to reach the appropriate standard, they must be taught in steps
because they are on ID IEPs, and it is vital that they learn all steps at their
instructional levels, rather than at a level above what they are able to do. This
lesson plan will focus on beginning numeracy in preparation of simple addition
and subtraction.
Classroom and Student This classroom hosts eight students with severe intellectual delay’s in grades
Factors/Grouping: ranging from 3-6. While all eight of these students are on ID classification IEPs,
they are all on different levels among themselves. The classroom consists of two
girls, and six boys.

Specific Learning The students will be given exposure to manipulatives to assist with early
Target(s)/Objectives: numeracy and understanding that larger numbers consist of smaller numbers.
The students will write the counting collections information down so that they
can see how numbers work.
Students will use manipulatives as a way of showing quantity for
counting.
Students will use the manipulatives to become more versed with
the idea of subsidizing in beginning numeracy.
Students will use two sets of numbers to either put together or take
apart.
Students will use the number talks program to help with
identifying numbers in different forms.
