Alcohol Abuse in Society
Alcohol is widely consumed by both adults who are and aren’t of age, regardless of one’s
gender or race/ethnicity. Throughout history in virtually all corners of the earth, alcohol has
played a role in the daily life and culture of societies. The amount of alcohol that one consumes
and how often they do it is the big issue. When a copious amount of alcohol is consumed on a
daily basisthat leads to personal dysfunction in life it iswhat we consider alcohol abuse. People
often tend to drink for many different reasons. One reason may be that they are stressed due
complications withtheir work orpersonal life. For example, someone might start drinking
because their company downsized therefore leaving them to pick up the slack from other
previous employees, or one could be going through a terrible divorce. Society has influenced the
over consumption of alcohol through media, advertising, music, and social media. These
mediumsportray how fun drinking is and how great it tastes, but they fail to talk about the effects
it can have on the body, both physically and mentally.
Alcohol abuse is considered a deviant behavior. Doing something to ones’ body that can
negatively affect them as well as others around them should not be recognized as a normal
behavior. Looking at this issue on a macro level,when someone has had a half a dozen drinks in
their system and then decide to get behind the wheel of a car, they are now threatening their own
