ADHD is significantly growing public health concern amongst children and adolescents.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has produced a website that revolves
around ADHD to educate individuals and their families of the matter of ADHD. On the CDC
website about ADHD, it talks about the types of ADHD one could experience, causes of ADHD,
some symptoms that someone may experience if they had ADHD.“ADHD can cause problems in
how well children do in school, in their ability to make and keep friends, and in how they
function in society. Although there are treatments to improve ADHD symptoms, more
information is needed about managing ADHD so that children can learn and grow into adulthood
without being impaired by their symptoms.” (CDC 2019) The CDC uses ethos, pathos and logos
effectively throughout their site to give factual information to families and individuals that are
interested in learning more about ADHD.
The CDC effectively teaches parents about ADHD using logos appeals in presenting the
material about ADHD on their website. The way they have the basic information throughout
their website appeals to reasoning of the reader.The word, logic choices and sentence structures
arean important role to the logos one constructs. The use of logos coincides with the use of ethos
because a well-developed sense of logos can help with the construction of ethos. Logos is the use
of logic to make an argument, as an appeal to reason. Logos are words, whether written or
verbal, used by the author to communicate his or her main point to the audience. (Rife, 2010)
