Rhetorical Analysis of CDC/ADHD Document
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has produced a website that
revolves around ADHD to educate individuals and their families of the matter of ADHD.The
information that the CDC has on its document of ADHD is directed towards families and
individuals suffering with this neurodevelopmental disorder. The information given is to help
families become aware; if not more aware of how common this disorder is, and possibly go
ahead and get the help that someone needs the audience may know. This webpage is a way the
CDC can get information out to the public efficiently. The CDC is a credible government
organization, which concludes they have the researchers, and authority that makes them a
reliable and credited source of information for the public to use. The CDC uses ethos, pathos
and logos effectively throughout their site to provide give information to families and individuals
that want to learn more about ADHD.
Center for Disease and Prevention effectively teaches parents about ADHD using logos
appeals in presenting the material about ADHD on their website. The use of logos coincides with
the use of ethos because a well-developed sense of logos can help with the construction of ethos.

Logos is the use of logic to make an argument, as an appeal to reason. Logos are words, whether
written or verbal, used by the author to communicate his or her main point to the audience. (Rife,
2010). They use rational facts and ideas to support the appeal that the author wishes to get
through to their readers. The CDC used clear, well organized information that was easily
understood by its readers. With having current research being done on ADHD, of its causes,
symptoms and treatment, it proves that the CDC really does support its own information. Some
causes and risk factors are not known but are studied by professionals to find better ways to
manage the disease (CDC, 2019). Diagnosing ADHD is not a single test process and has many
steps. Diagnosing ADHD is a more complex process, with multiple tests to be done. Some steps
include but not limited to, medical exam, hearing and vision tests getting history of the child or
individual from parents or guardians. (CDC, 2019). The way the webpage is laid out, it makes it
easy for the average person to navigate through it. In addition, the CDC also provides links and
other resources to the information it is providing to the public. (CDC 2019) With the effectively
using logos, the CDC also backs ups its credibility with the use of ethos on its webpage
regarding ADHD.
The CDC effectively teaches parents about ADHD using ethos appeals as well.Ethos is
the appeal that supports information with credibility, ethics, and authority. (Meyer 2012)
Establishing effective research ethos is key when it comes to carrying out papers. Any author
should develop ethos because it is logical and crucial for compositions. (Rife 2010) The CDC is
its own ethical appeal if you think about it.A very well known, trustworthy site that society will
go to for answers or more information about health-related concerns. The CDC being run by the
government and an extremely credible source with multiple doctors and scientists that provide
the information provided on their site, the CDC is an effective source of information for
