Introduction
In Finland, the Ministry of Justice is accountable for prison’s system. Ministry of Justice
in Finland holds to a vision of attaining an open, more active, and safe society such that everyone
is confident that individual rights are felt and respected. This Ministry is responsible of
maintenance and development of legal order as well as legal protection. Besides, the Ministry
strengthens the structures of social equality and protects citizen’s essential rights. Having been
accorded the responsibility of overlooking the prisons, this Ministry has strived to enhance a
good prison system in Finland that respects the rights of prisoners and treats them like any other
individual despite the minimal freedom (Schartmueller, 2018). Perhaps, Finland’s prison system,
different from US prison system, aims at moral-creating and value shaping among the prisoners.
Article: Assessing the Global Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Prison Population
Catherine Heard, the author of the article, has focused on the effects of Covid-19
pandemic to prison’s populations. In this case, researchers gathered information from various
prisons in distinct countries including Kenya, South Africa, Thailand, and Brazil (Heard, 2020).
In these countries, the prisoners showed little confidence with the conditions in prisons.
Following the firsthand information given by the prisoners, it is clear that conditions in prison
are not reliable in prevention of Covid-19 spread. According to Heard (2020), most of the
prisons globally will undergo numerous struggles in effort to cope with the pandemic. In this
case, Finland is not an exception. Relating the situation with Finland’s prisons, it is evident that
female inmates are at a higher risk of contracting highly infectious diseases such Covid-19
compared to male inmates (Heard, 2020). It is evident that there is much overcrowding in female
