Question 1
“Compliance is defined as the degree to which the patient’s actual regime matches that
prescribed to him by the healthcare provider” (Dutt, 2017). This includes medication, therapy,
and any other treatment ordered by healthcare providers. Healthcare providers prescribe
treatments to improve a patients condition and overall health, when a patient is compliant their
over health should improve, if it does not, it could possible mean that the treatment is ineffective
and needs to be adjusted. “Patient compliance is crucial to enhance patient outcomes, minimize
health complications and in preventing hospital readmissions” (Dutt, 2017)
Question 2
“The role of healthcare professionals in patient compliance includes providing adequate
information to the client regarding the treatment. Additionally, the healthcare professionals
should educate the patient to facilitate compliance. Some examples in which the healthcare
professionals may cause noncompliance includes being rude to patient, failure to provide
adequate information to the patient, and poor communication” (Dutt, 207). When discussing
treatment plans healthcare workers should include the patient as much as possible and allow
them to make decisions regarding their treatment. Education should also be provided about what
could happen if the patient is non-compliant in their healthcare plan.
Question 3
Compliance essentially refers to the following of advice from the healthcare professional
concerning treatment, lifestyle changes, and medication regimens. Being compliant often means
the provider has the authority and the patient should obey. Collaboration can be between the
primary physician and other healthcare providers or with the patient. Collaboration allows for
different approaches, knowledge sharing, and more feedback (Beena & Jose, 2013).
