Instructional Plan Title: Picture Walk: The Gruffalo (Donaldson, 1999) and Fox in Socks (Seuss, 1965)
Lesson Summary and This lesson will focus on students using pre-reading activities and strategies.
Focus: Strategies such as the 5Ws, brainstorming, and understanding the importance of
whole class and small group discussion when reading.
The development of vocabulary focusing on reading, listening, speaking, and
comprehension will be practiced.
During activities, teacher and aide will circulate the classroom asking questions,
and using stop and model. This will encourage students to discuss and
brainstorm and use other activities and strategies presented during the lesson.
Classroom and Student The classroom consists of a teacher, a para-educator, and twelve
Factors/Grouping: students. The classroom consists of students with a variety of
needs, including but not limited to IEPs, 504s, behavior, ELL and
more.
All twelve students are below grade level by at least two standard
deviations in both math and reading.
Groupings will be done in both one on one, small groups (2 to 3
students and teacher or para-educator), and a whole class setting.
