Instructional Plan Title: Equivalent Fractions
Lesson Summary and Students will identify equivalent fractions and represent them using visual
Focus: models. Students will be able to define fractions, and their parts.
Classroom and Student This is a group of four students who are all below grade level in the area of
Factors/Grouping: mathematics. These students all have IEP plans, which layout their differentiated
individualized education plan accommodations and modifications. The student
disabilities range from ASD, TBI, through ID.
National/State Learning CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.NF.A.1
Standards: Understand a fraction 1/b as the quantity formed by 1 part when a whole
is partitioned into b equal parts; understand a fraction a/b as the quantity
formed by a parts of size 1/b. (Common Core Standards, n.d.).
Specific Learning At the end of this lesson, students will be able to identify fractions and
Target(s)/Objectives: understand their equivalents using models. The students will show
understanding of appropriate vocabulary associated with fractions. Terms such
as fraction, numerator, and denominator. Manipulatives such as drawing,
computers, math sites such as education.com, and math manipulatives to form
visual representations of the equivalents. (Educational Games, Worksheets,
and More for Kids, n.d.).

Vocabulary terms are vital to student success, and will be introduced using
online flash cards, and games. Students will make note cards for the word wall
