Inflammatory bowel disease refers to two
chronic diseases that cause inflammation of the
intestines: ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s
Disease
Although the diseases have some features in
common, there are some important differences.

• Ulcerative colitis (UC) is one of two
major types of inflammatory bowel

• It is a disease that spans the entire
length of the colon and involves only
the mucosa and submucosa of the
large intestine.
