Researching career information and drawing up a plan
I’am working towards in achieving a career in business management and use my
experience and qualification to become a chief executive officer. To make sure I’am
making the right decision and I’am well prepared for the career ahead of me, I must
research a variety of sources of information.

You can find a variety of information about your chosen career on different types of
sources internet and non-internet. These include work experience, job centres,
careers service (university, college, school), newspapers, recruitment fairs and
websites.
The use of the sources can assist you and confirm their career choice and update
any current information about qualifications needed, compensation packages and
new route for progression. Information researched below has supported me in a
better understanding of my chosen career of Chief Executive Officer.
Work experience: Work experience gives you information and an idea of how the
working environment is like. This type of source I can learn new skills when
completing work experience. This helps tell me if this is the right career path for me. I
have completed my work experience at a primary school as Teacher Assistant and
now I work part time at McDonald’s. I learnt many skills from being a Teacher
Assistant such as patience, listening and communication which was transferred to
my current part time job at McDonald’s where I learnt extra skills such as time
management, teamwork, communication, and decision making.
Job centres: Job centres provide individuals who work within the job centre to help
them look for jobs. They have multiple services such as financial support for the
unemployed, training and development. Job centres also help individuals with
application forms, cv and interview guidance. Then they can refer them to other
businesses that work with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
This helps with my career path as it will give me and idea what employers and
businesses are looking for from that working background such as experience,

qualifications, and skills. As well as an insight of what support I can have access to
help me with my long-term goal.
Careers services: Careers services provide information what courses they have
that students can get involved in and where they are based. This benefits as it would
help me set out my path towards my future. It could also help me as it could help my
decisions on what I want to do. As a student at Oaklands College I can get support
for career, develop skills and basic information about business that I can use at
McDonald’s. At Oaklands College I can get information on what I can do with my
current qualifications.
Recruitment fairs: Recruitment fairs gives you the opportunity to talk face to face
with professional workers of your career choice. This is beneficial as I can ask many
questions about my career path I am interested in as well as an internship or
potential employment with the business by handing in my cv. At recruitment fairs I
can find the pros and cons of the job and see if that career choice of mine is the right
one.
Newspapers: Newspapers can give you current information about local industries or
national industries. It can also provide you with announcements, vacancies, and
business growth. From newspapers businesses can see what other businesses are
doing and can see if their choice can be the best one from other company’s
experience. This makes the decision making more confident.
Website: Using company websites gives you an opportunity to research for careers
and read information on the career that you maybe in interested in the future. This
would benefit me because I can gain new source of information. I can see other
individuals experience within that job role and check the requirements.
Human resources department: Human resources department help develop and
support staff and any concerns they have. This beneficial source as the HR
department can help employees develop a stronger commitment to the company and
its goals.
Interviews: An interview can be either phone call or face to face. This is between an
interviewer and the interviewee where the interviewee will need to answer the
