What predicts behaviour at the workplace?
Factors related to the individual that predict behaviour in the
workplace
1. Ability (Competencies, job knowledge, experience)
2. Demographic factors (Age, education, biographical factors)
3. Intelligence (Fluid and crystallised intelligence, emotional
intelligence etc)
4. Motivation (Multidimensional construct, drive to cause some actions
rather than others)
5. Personality (Traits or characteristics that are stable over time and
account for consistent patterns of behaviour)
- There are complex relationships between these factors and
behaviour
- The patterns of relationships can also vary

1. Eysenck Model (Extraversion, Neuroticism and Psychoticism)
2. Cattell’s 16 Personality Factors
3. Costa & McCrae’s Big Five or Five Factor Model (Extraversion,
Agreeableness, Neuroticism (Emotional Stability),
Conscientiousness, Openness to Experience (Intellect) )
4. HEXACO – Six factor model of personality (Five factors + a Honest-
Humility factor)
